(Part 8) 1991: The impact of GST 

The GST began and impacted store visits and purchases. We started bid board style auctions to offset the losses. We also stopped handling antiquities as border crossing became more difficult. A cruise ship visitors shuttle to Eaton’s helped.

Jack Wallace hosted the British North America Philatelic Society convention in Vancouver.


Steinhart attended but got a jaywalking ticket and never returned to Vancouver.

Pavel Bure’s rookie card garnered lots of interest.

The 1991 quarter was a low mintage of 459,000. Canadian banknotes, especially replacement notes, began growing in popularity.
